Cementless Total Hip Arthroplasty with Harris-Galante Prosthesis

Abstract
We have experienced 34 cases of Harris-Galante hip arthroplasty and follow up more than 5 years from Jan. 1986 to Octo. 1988.
@ES The results were as follows;
@EN The average preoperative Harris hip score was 51.5 points which improved to 84.8 points at the 71.5 months follow up examination.
Mode of fixation were bone ingrowth in 17 hips(50%), stable fibrous ingrowth in 11(32.4%) and unstable implant 6(17.6%).
The average vertical subsidence was 2.8mm. Ther were 6 cases (17.8%) of vertical subsidence more than 5mm. there was pain on thigh in 7 cases(20.6%).
There were 7cases(20.6%) of endosteal lysis of distal femur.
One acetabular component was revised due to dissociation of modular polyethylene liner. Six femoral implants were unstable, and of these, three were revised.
Our experience with Harris-Galante prosthesis suggests that a successful result can be obtained when there is a good metaphyseal and diaphyseal fit of the component.
